Trending: Turtles

We’re neighbors with some pretty cool creatures – sea turtles! And we love them! We are thrilled to carry some great gift and fashion finds that pay homage to our beloved neighbors like these cute ones pictured above.

Sadly, all of the sea turtle species here in the U.S. are listed as endangered or threatened. Here are some ways you can do your part to help sea turtles:

  •  + Ensure their protection – If you are on Topsail Island and see any sign of sea turtles, please inform the great folks at www.seaturtlehospital.org, who can make sure turtles and nests are protected. If you are in another area, check www.seaturtle.org to find your local organization.

  •  + Respect their space – If you encounter a sea turtle, be quiet and keep your distance, don’t disturb them, and please refrain from flash photography.

  •  + Lights out! – Lights can disorient sea turtles. Keep ocean side lights off at night.

  •  + Watch for litter – Make sure you are careful not to leave behind any litter, especially plastic bags. Sea turtles may mistake these items for food, and ingestion of these items can be lethal to them.

  •  + No balloons! – Balloons are also often mistaken for food by sea turtles. Find other ways to be festive and keep balloons away from the beach. Refrain from helium balloon releases even if you aren’t near the beach. Helium balloons can travel far and may be dangerous to other wildlife as well.

  •  + Keep the beach clear of obstructions – If you dig a hole on the beach, fill it back in before you leave. Sea turtles can get stuck in them. Also be sure you don’t leave lounge chairs, beach umbrellas and other such objects out overnight. These can obstruct a sea turtle’s path and deter nesting attempts.

Celebrate Inner Beauty

volunteer bee

Hi everyone!

Here at The Bee, we appreciate beauty, both inside and out. Today we want to take the opportunity to celebrate inner beauty and recognize all those who volunteer.

Did you know that April 20 is Volunteer Recognition Day and just this past week (April 12-18) was National Volunteer Week? Here are some ways to celebrate: say thank you to a volunteer, get involved and take part in a volunteer activity, or donate to a volunteer group.

I’ve decided to volunteer for the Topsail Turtle Project. I’m new to The Bee, (Hi, I’m Jessica. Nice to meet y’all by the way!) and I’m new the area. When I heard about the Topsail Turtle Project, I was so impressed and knew immediately that I wanted to get involved in this important project.

What is the Topsail Turtle Project? For those of you who don’t know, the project’s volunteers identify, monitor, and protect sea turtle nests on Topsail Island and guard the hatchlings to help them make it out to the ocean. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help with this vital work!

I am so proud of this organization and its dedicated volunteers, and I’m looking forward to getting involved. A big thanks to everyone out there who volunteers! You are helping to make the world a more beautiful place – and that is true style!

– Jessica

P.S. You can learn more about the wonderful organization behind this project at www.seaturtlehospital.org and check back soon – on our next blog post, we’ll share good beach practices that help protect sea turtles.

Put Your Best Foot Forward

jackiewearingjacks2

This week at The Bee, we’re all about putting our best feet forward – literally and figuratively! Spring means sandals, and we have the perfect ones for creating a pretty and polished look. Right now we’re loving our Jack Rogers Classic Sandals, but they’re more than a “right now” look. They’re timeless.

Did you know that the Jack Rogers Classic Sandal has been afoot (hilarious pun intended) since the 1960s and was inspired by Jackie Kennedy? She returned from a vacation in Capri in love with a pair of sandals she found there. She asked a stateside shoemaker to recreate them in a few different colors, which inspired the evolution of the Jack Rogers Classic Sandal.

Now iconic, this timeless sandal features a decorative rondelle and whipstitched leather. When paired with jeans, cropped pants, shorts, or a sundress, they’ll instantly and effortlessly elevate a casual look to a luxe one. A look that’s comfortable and effortless, yet chic, and oh so very Jackie O? Yes please! And the best part? These aren’t going out of style any time soon!

One of the easiest (and cutest) way to wear this trend is to steer towards Bohemian Chic; think boots and lots of jewelry that adds personality and color to the look. And you can’t go wrong with anything embroidered. Stop by to see out selection of Boho Chich fashions and accessories!
